Dear Julian;

I am in receipt of your letter of May 6, 1968 relative to Attorney Payton's bid for a congressional seat in North Carolina.

I agree with your observations, and I will be glad to speak for Attorney Payton, if by doing so, it will in any way enhance his chance for election. Perhaps we may be able to arrange to go together on one occasion.

I will await further instuction from you.

Dear Senator Johnson:

I was pleased to receive your letter. Your reply and a verbal respose from Ben Brown were the only ones I received, although I did receive an indication from Mrs. Hamilton that while she was in the area to speak for a state legistative candidate, she would attempt to do the same for Attorney Payton.

I hope to be in touch with you later about the possibilty of us going together or separately.

Additionally, I wanted to send you a copy of my latest newsletter and ask whether you thought such a newsletter - dealing with Negro policies - might be of interest to Negro elected officials and Negroes interested in politics across the state. I thought that one way to build a stong Negro vote in Georgia might be to begin now to inform those Negroes actively involved in

voter registration efforts and political efforts across the state of political currents in all the various sections of the state as they relate to us.
