Gentlemen:

Mark Suckle has requested that I forward to you this letter of reference. He has filed for conscientious objector status.

I have known Mark Suckle for over five years. We worked together for the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee from 1963 until 1965.

I have kept in close contact with him since then. I can state with firm conviction that Mark Suckle is sincerely opposed to war and violence. On numerous occasions he has expressed his feelings against physical force. His involvement in the civil rights movement is one outstanding indication of his devotion and dedication to nonviolent democratic change.

I can only repeat with every assurance that Mark Suckle is a sincere conscientious objector.

Sincerely,

Julian Bond
