The Greenwood Movement 708 Avenue I Greenwood, Mississippi, 38930 July 18, 1968

Mr. Julian Bond Southern Regional Council 5 Forsyth Street, N.W. Atlanta, Georgia, 30303

Dear Mr. Bond:

The Executive Committee of the Greenwood Movement in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is hereby officially requesting whatever financial, organizational, and strategivcal aid we might receive from the Southern Regional Council or any other related organization.

The Movement was, for all practivcal purposes, organized April 5, 1968, and has been actively engaged in all matters related to the politivcal, economic, and social welfare of Black People, with overtones that would benefit all citizens.

With a slight population majority, the Black People of Greenwood (Leflore County) Mississippi, hold no elective or appointive offices. We feel that with sufficient funds and other resources the dilemma could be eradicated by the August election of 1969.

Therefore we are urgently requesting that aid or assistance should be sent with all deliberate speed.

We would further appreciate and look forward to your speaking at a Greenwood Movement meeting any Tuesday, Thursday (7:30 PM), or Sundays at 3:00PM.

Please let us hear from you about any or all of these matters. I cannot overemphasize the urgency of our situation.

Respectfully,

The Executive Committee Greenwood Movement
