September 24, 1968

Mr. Julian Bond 5 Forsyth Street Atlanta, Georgia 30300

Dear Mr. Bond:

On Friday and Saturday, November 1 and 2, 1968, Benedict College will hold inaugural activities and ceremonies installing Doctor Benjamin F. Payton as its Tenth President. The formal inaugural ceremonies will take place on Saturday, November 2, 1968.

On Friday, November 1, 1968, at 7:30 P. M. we have scheduled a symposium in which we hope to explore and put into proper perspective some of the more pertinent aspects of law and order, student unrest, etc. We are very hopeful that you can come and serve as a keynoter of the symposium along with one other prominent public figure. After your keynote address we would then have reactions from a panel of discussants composed of students, teachers, and community leaders. Your presence would certainly mean a great deal to our program of inaugural activities. We hope that you will do everything possible to fit us into your busy schedule. Dr. Benjamin E. Mays, chairman, and other members of the Inaugural Committee are anxious for you to join us in this activity.

The brief plans for the symposium as outlined will be completed and sent to you in detail just as soon as you indicate whether or not you will be able to accept our invitation.

Very truly yours, Luns C. Richardson Associate Dean of the Faculty
