Julian Bond a TV Guest

Julian Bond, the Negro State Representative in Georgia, will be interviewed on the first program of "Soul," the all-Negro series, on Channel 13 at 9 P.M. next Thursday. The one-hour color program will include performances by Patti LaBelle and the Bluebells and The Vibrations, two rhythm and blues groups; Irwin C. Watson, comedian; Pearl Williams Jones, gospel singer and pianist; and Novella Nelson and Barbara Acklin, vocalists. Alvin Pouissant is the host.

[Handwritten letter from Ellis Haizlip]:

Dear Julian:

Just a note to say thank you for a very meaningful interview and giving "Soul!" a major kickoff. You are more than welcome at anytime in the future.

I do hope you will keep in touch and that perhaps on your next trip to New York you will allow me to plan an evening's social gathering for you. Perhaps Mrs. Bond could accompany you then.

Again thanks and peace and power.

Regards,

Ellis Haizlip

Bond Says He Will Support Negro and Peace Candidates

Julian Bond, the leader of Georgia's insurgent Democrats, said last night, after taping a TV program for Channel 13, that he expected to spend most of his time during this election campaign working for Negro and peace candidates, rather than the party's Presidential slate, The Associated Press reports.

Mr. Bond, who had supported Senator Eugene J. McCarthy for the party's nomination, said he was bound by two oaths to support the party's nominee, Vice President Humphrey.

But the 28-year-old state legislator, who led the Georgia insurgent delegation at the Democratic National Convention, said he expected to do so much campaigning for "Black candidates" and "peace candidates" on the local level around the country that he would not "have much time left" to work actively for Mr. Humphrey.

Dear Ellis:

Thanks for the note. I enjoyed the taping of the show and wish I could have seen the whole show on tv.

I will keep in tocuh, and hope to get back to the city soon.

I am enclosing two brochures describing some local talent that might interest you. I especially reccomend Bernice Reagon; she a neighbor and a terriffic performer.

Thanks again.

Sincerely,
