Dear Mr. Bond,

We heard you speak at the McCarthy rally at the Wheat Street Baptist Church - and then at the Loyalists Convention at Macon. At that time I remarked to you that I was impressed with you as a person. I was impressed with your intelligence and your desire to better conditions for all people in America. The statement that I was 'impressed' was the understatement of the year.

We have heavy, heavy hearts over the outcome of the events in Chicago. Eugene McCarthy is a compassionate, brilliant, capable man. Even tho he lost ballot-wise, he won the most coveted victory of all. He won UNANIMOUSLY in hardening the will of the people to end the war, and to push for honest and representative elections. You played a large role in helping him win this victory, and we are so proud of you and the way you handled yourself.

You have a great future, and my husband has frequently remarked that you would make an effective Mayor of Atlanta. That would be a start, but I think you have qualities that would carry you even further.

May I say "thank you" for representing Georgia in such a capable manner. We needed someone to offset the gross impression some of our elected officials made in Chicago.

Our best regards, and may God bless you and your family.

Sincerely,

(signed) Marjorie M. Barger
