THE SOUTHEASTERN DISTRICT of the Unitarian Universalist Association

September 20 1968

The Honorable Julian Bond 162 Euharlee Street, N.W. Atlanta, Georgia 30314

Dear Julian:

In view of the many contacts you make people over the years, let me refresh my identity for you. You may remember me as the Unitarian Universalist Regional Minister based in Atlanta, formerly a member of our Commission on Religion and Race which was recently converted into a much more dynamic agency called the Black Affairs Council.

You will probably recall that I asked you to speak at our Summer Institute at the Brevard Music Center in the summer of 1967. You were unable to come because of family illness. Now I am writing you for a colleague, Dr. Arthur Graham, Minister of our church in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, who recently wrote asking if you might possibly be interested in speaking at their 20th Anniversary Celebration. The date of the celebration has not been set, but it will be early in 1969.

I contacted your Father after several attempts to reach you and he suggested that I write you if I was no longer able to reach you by telephone, since you were traveling a great deal. I am going exactly this, and sending a copy of this letter to Dr. Graham, who may reach you himself. His address, in case you do have the time to write to him, is P.O. Bos 485, Oak Ridge, Tennessee 37830.

I hope things are going well with you and rejoice along with you in the seating of at least one half of the delegation of the Loyal Democrats at the Convention. More power to you!

As ever, [signature] Clifton G. Hoffman Executive Director
