Dear Senator hughes,

As your Commission is nearing Atlanta and the Southern hearings on party reform, I thought you might like to see a compilation of campaign experiences of some selected Southern Black candidates.

While not all are Democrats, and while not all experienced grave difficult the experiences recorded here do illustrate what handicaps can be imposed on Black candidatges at the hands of a nearly all-white local or state Democratic party.

Also, I believe that these interviews demonstrate the urgency of extending the life of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and for honest and aggressive enforcement of it.

Sincerely,

Julian Bond

Senator Harold Hughes Senate Office Building Washington, D.C.
