Mount Morris, Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1897.

Letter from Lillie. Jennie received a letter from Lillie and I received one from Ellot, both were dated at Thayer, Neosho Co., Kan., Dec. 19th , and mailed, Dec. 20th, 3 p.m. Removal to Kansas. They removed there during last week. Hydrant Frozen. 8 degrees below this morning. Hydrant froze this evening. 4 degrees below at 7 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 23rd Letter to Ellot. Wrote a letter to Ellot & mailed it 10:38 a.m. Letter f'm Earnest. Rec'd a letter from Ernest this morning, 7 a.m. Married. Elmer Baker and Ida Wallace were married yesterday evening.

Friday, Dec. 24th Visitor. George Hoffman called briefly at noon to-day.

Saturday, Dec. 25th Visitor Misses Lulu and Mina Middour dined with us to-day it being Christmas, we had a "turkey dinner". Warmer Much warmer. Temp. at 2 p.m. 32 degrees.

Mr. Morris, Sunday, Dec. 26, 1897.

Sleighing: Sleighing is becoming quite poor, the scant snow being about worn out. Visitor: Mrs. Witman dined with us, and visited with us this afternoon. Rec'd Present: Rec'd a linen pocket handkerchief from Earl Goffman this morning.

Monday, Dec. 27th

Tuesday, Dec. 28th Visit to Aurora: Mrs. Ellan Baker returned home from visit with her son Fred at Aurora Visitor Surprise: Mrs. Witman visited with us this evening & took supper, after which Jennie and her go to a surprise party given Rev L L Lipe at Lutheran Church Sick: I was quite sick today from a malarial attack. New Neighbors: Mrs. Ella Winders, and her father commenced housekeeping in Mrs. Elizabeth Newcomer's dwelling just East of us.

Mt. Morris, Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1897.

Visitor: Mrs. Witsman sojourned with us last night. After breakfast she returned home.

Thursday, Dec. 30th Visit: At 9 a.m., Jennie and children go out to visit Middour's in the milk sled, and at 4 p.m., John goes to bring them home in the buggy. Hotel for Sale: Hotel Rohrer was offered at Public Sale this p.m.---was not sold.

Friday, Dec. 31st Sick today. Cold, sore throat + stomach out of order. In bed--up and down. Got it down for influenza or grippe. Flurry of snow. Strong winds---temp. at 2 p.m. -- 20 degrees.

Visitors: Mr. H. Highberger and son Harry of near Woosung, call this a.m.

Sunday, Jan. 2nd

Visitors. Mr. H. Highberger and his son Harry dined with us to-day. Also, Mrs. Witman. Fine day. Temp at 2 p.m. 30 degrees---

Very ill. Chas Niman very ill. Sick. Kept my bed today, till afternoon.

Monday, Jan. 3d Sick- better. Charles Niman is reported better today. Came Home. Lillie Baker returned from Aurora this p.m. ---

Tuesday, Jan. 4th Sledding. Sledding has all ended.

Wednesday, Jan. 5th Visitor. Mina Middour took supper with us.

Mt. Morris, Thursday, Jan. 6, 1898

Attend Lecture. Blanche and Jennie Fearer and escort came up to attend D.B. Miller's lecture yesterday evening. Mild Weather. Thawing temperature for a few days past has made muddy roads.

Friday, Jan. 7th

Saturday Jan. 8th Still Sick. Charlie Niman thought to be worse this evening, being very ill with inflamation of the bowells.

Sunday, Jan. 9th Went to Rockford. John started per buggy to Rockford at 9 a.m. Misty day. Temp. at 2 p.m., 33 degrees. Visitor. Sick. Aunt Eliza Niman called this evening at 4; Charlie is very sick.
