Wyoming N.Y. February 12th 1913

My dear Miss White

It is a long time since I heard from you. I hope you are well & that you were able to hear Miss Shaw. My friend Mrs. Cochran wrote & told me how much she enjoyed her speech on the Sunday afternoon & meeting her at the Reception Mrs Leach gave for her. We had a delightful visit from her last month. She was tired so she kept in her room much of the day writing letters but the evenings were a rare feast

She told us of her early life & experiences & the many difficulties which beset her. She made a brave struggle & that probably has had much to do in making her the great woman she is. You probably know she goes to Europe in April to attend Conventions in London, Holland, Germany & Hungary. In listening to her I almost forgot my age & felt I would like to accompany her.

In December we had a visit

from Mr. & Mrs. Kiefer on their way to the Single Tax Convention at Boston. You probably went to Mr. Fels meeting recently & if so you will know all there is to know about the progress of the cause. He has decided not to give the $25.000 annually but duplicate every dollar subscribed. I am sorry not to have seen him during this visit. Mrs Fels & he sail today for London & then go to S. America.

We are spending the winter

here. My daughter- Mrs Ward & I had intended being in Chicago but she was tired & the weather was so good we could not bear to leave & then we decided to stay the winter. Until the {last?} week the weather has been wonderfully mild but just now it's Zero & on Monday was 13 below, still we are very comfortable& the time has simply flown.

I am hoping to have a visit

from my youngest daughter - Mrs. Robinson - very soon. They have gone to their own home at Anchorage again & appreciate being in the country if only for escaping the soot. I hope the time is not far distant when it will be compulsory to use Smoke Consumers. It would make a great difference to the public health & greatly reduce the cost of housekeeping. When women are enfranchised they will take up the matter with many others that seen waiting
