so hope to have some money soon – it is so hu-
miliating [humiliating] to be without at this time when there are
so many calls for it.

June 26, 1922 – Monday
I was again in charge of chapel exercises.
Washed some woolens, brushed others, trying to
get rid of the moths. Miss P. came in to say we would
go calling this aft. got an auto while down town
this a.m.; we were to start at 4:30 but I, alas, was
late, so it was nearly 5 when we got started. The
mosquitoes nearly devoured me when batting
slew three at one slap, they were feasting so
thick on my leg. Wore my dotted swiss. The first
place we went – the R.R. doctor's – the couple were
at home, first having tea in fact, but the man fled,
the wife, an M.D. also, is quite an artist, having
some lovely water color landscapes in hall &
drawing-room, on which she took a medal at
the exhibition in R. last January. Mrs. Lutta, a dotty, was
also at home, as were the Wesleyan maiden ladies –
missed the Chapmans – while most of the others,
both in & out of the fort, were not in, so we dropp-
ed [dropped] our cards – 22 of them. Miss P. accompanied
us on this trip. We did not get down to "the shore",
nor were we able to find all of the others – even
if we'd had time, so we'll have to go again some-
time [sometime]. Miss R. of the W's has been excused from the
language exams; it seems this was also one
thing troubling Miss Laurence – not to mention
Miss Fry – nor myself! Mrs. H also wanted to go with
us, but was forgotten till after the start this p.m. I
must call there – only hope she isn't sensitive – will

take her a Y.C.!

June 27, 1922 – Tuesday
One of the girls in 5th standard is ill & has been ab-
sent [absent] while her sister has also been out of Bible class,
& when I questioned her about it she said she was
helping to wait on her sister. Mrs. E. & I went to Mrs H's
this aft; when all ready to go found her in the library
here working with the girl guide leaders, so we had to
wait half an hr. or more & then all walked over to-
gether [together]. Their drawingroom downstairs is rather
large and barny, but they have a nice rug & large center table;
the tiny folding organ looks too comical; the few
pictures are too small for the spaces they are sup-
posed [supposed] to fill – all of which she probably knows even
better than I. Did no work, so far as straightening
is concerned, today; read my 2 I.Js & a G.C., also a
Gazette or two; wrote a couple of cards, corrected my
english note books, & such like jobs. Wore my blue
dress this p.m.; didn't get my bath before dinner, so
had to take it before retiring. the [?] swept
today, for which I was grateful as my floor was
full of small litter over the week-end. We heard
unofficially that the inspector would be here
Thurs, so Mrs E. has written him at Maymyo, urging
him to come. Got a note containing the prints I or-
dered [ordered] from Mrs. Marshall this aft. Not a line from
Dr. Kelly thus far – it is about time he wrote. Think
I'll tackle my photographs next & later my books, &
music last. the sorting of clothes, etc., goes on all
the time – between jumps. Ma T.M. told me that she
