then the teachers came over for ice-cream & cake
which they don't seem to care for especially – then
played "Ship to Boston"
after trying two physical illusions suggested by Mrs. E. then went
to bed.

September 24, 1922 – Sunday
The latter worked on recovering her hat most of
the day – she worked on an old raincoat remodelled into
a cape previously – which she insisted on finishing be-
fore [before] bedtime in order to wear today. I went to the ch. with
the girls at a little after 8 this a.m.; it was a good thing I
did for without this practise the 3 brief scenes from
the life of Esther which I had chosen from the 2nd
4th & the first 5 verses of the 5th chs. would probably
have been a complete failure; as it was they didn't do
half as well as they had done previously. On acc't of ex-
ams [exams], however, we had our first meet on Th. aft when
I tried them out, & didn't even assign parts; Fri. aft I
did that much, expecting to meet again Sat. a.m.;
but R.R. took all morn with the G.G's, so only had a
chance to meet yes. eve while she was working
with the bluebirds just before dinner. Ma Mya Yi
was Esther; Ma Yi, Ahasuerus; May, Hatash the king's
chamberlain; Ma Thau Tin, Mordecai; Amalay, the
maid of honor; & Hegai, keeper of the womens
besides the seven maidens – The H's came over to tea
at 3:30 & about an hr. later the 2 R. sisters & I left for
the 700 pagodas. On the way there K. was telling me
of her experiences with Mrs. Joseph – poor woman
whose husband has had a B. for 7 1/2 yrs. &
has 3 children by her, given her a fine house, etc.,
& she the wife had just recently found it out. We
were supposed to get back in time to go to ch. but our
gharry wallah wandered off & we had to walk
& walk to find him, which we finally did – to
our great relief. We went in with shoes on how-
ever [however] & rambled about among the tablets of the law

seeing very few people as it was rather late.
They talked till 11 p.m. last eve tho' they "turned in" about ten.

September 25, 1922 – Monday
A strenuous day – in one way; it seems to me. I al-
ways [always] have this kind when I'm not feeling well. Cleared
the table & helped turn the cloth after I'd finished break.
The Rs had gone to pyagyi before I was down. Wrote
out the calendar previously & put up when I went to ch –
was late. Then after teaching my class, made arrange-
ments [arrangements] with Ma M. to take her class in orals, as I had
spoken to her about it on Fri. – when Mrs. E. changed
one of the exams. on acc't of the girls who was ta-
king [taking] her solitary advanced Eng. in the library,
so she put the 2nd S. Arith. in instead. Ma M. had
to go home for her papers, & I had to sit with them
while she did so, & later stay with the bunch in the
7th S. room taking tests till breakfast time; but
I read Sat's paper & wrote out the roll of names to
use with the 2nd s. orals. Then to my room & then
break; then library; thence up here again where I
corrected 1/3 of my Eng. papers before time to go to B. cl.
Then Mrs. E. showed me several things in the office.
I had "tea" & went to my room. Jem came in to sweep,
so I crawled up on the bed, & read a Geog. till I got so
so sleepy that I took a brief nap about the time a rain
came up, the 1st we've had since Th. night. The girls
went to bazaar with Ma Myint this a.m. & bought quite
a lot of things, while a number of the girls have given
them presents; this aft. they started off again to see
Mrs. W. about the G.G's, to visit St. Mary's school – where
they had tea & brought back word that Miss G. is to go to
the Blind School at Insein – I feel sorry for her. Then
they packed & we had early dinner – 7 o'clock, in order
that they could get their train for Tongoo at 8:00; – arrived
there they will be with Miss Adams. I stripped the room
