King 25th July 1901
To. J. M. Walton Esq.
Treasurer of the Municipality of The
Township of King
Aurora
My Dear Walton
If you are at liberty to do me
a favour I trust that our long friendship may
be sufficent to induce you to do so and that is if
you can, give me some assistance in procuring the position
of Clerk of the Municipality. I well know your influence
with Mr. Rogers and I think if he were favourable to me
I could get the position. You will also know that I have always
been friendly towards you, it was I who proposed your name
as Treasurer when the late B.F. Brown resigned and I have ever stood
by you and have ever endeavoured to stroke down our old friend
Simeon the right way of the Hair but he is so antagonistic to
you and yours as well (as in a covert way) to myself that it appears
absolulty useless trying to do anything with him, now Mr. Walton if
you can do anything for me it would be very gratefully appre-
ciated and acknowledged by me as my circumistances are such that
any little financial help I can get will be a matter of importence to me.
I trust you will treat this communication as strictly private
and confidential, as I don't want this matter between you and I [?ed]
to any one.
I am yours truly
James C. Stokes
