On avoit élevé sur la place au Vendredy quatre grandes Pi-
ramides artistement faites: deux etoient en forme de tours
hexagônes ; c’est à dire à six façes, avec cinq étages de balu-
strades, & les deux autres étoient quarrées avec leurs arcades
& leurs galeries, & sur chaque angle on avoit pôsé une petite
piramide. Elles étoient ornées des bannières des Ecclesiastiques
& des Chefs-Colleges (sçavoir de la Ville de Gand, de celle
de Bruges, & du College du Franc dont les Députés compo-
sent les Membres de la Province) & elles étoient illuminées
d’un grand nombre de lanternes & de fanaux, qui donnoient
un aspect très agréable
. Il y avoit encore devant l’Hôtel de Vil-
le trois autres semblables Piramides construites en forme de
Temple Romain avec des Couronnes Impériales & des Globes
au sommet: elles étoient aussi illuminées par des lanternes
pein-
tes aux armes de Sa Majesté Impériale & Catholique, de la Pro-
vince de Flandres, de toutes ses Villes & de ses Châtellenies,
ce qui faisoit une très belle vue.

Le lendemain 19.me on fit joüer le feu d’artifices, que l’on
avoit préparé au milieu du marché au vendredi tout à l'entour
de la statüe de l’Empereur Charles-Quint. On y vojoit en feu
le chiffre du Nom de Sa Majesté Impériale & Catholique & le
chronogramme suivant : InaUgUratIonI FLanDro-beLgII Co-
MIItIs
, & le tout reiüssît à l'entiere satisfaction de la Cour & de
tous les Spctateurs.

Il y eût ensuite à l'Hôtel de Ville un Bal public, avec grand
concours de Seigneurs & Dames, qui y parurent dans la derniere
magnificence: on y servit de toute sorte de rafraichissemens en gran-
de profùsion; Son Excellence eût la bonté de l’honorer de sa presen-
ce jusques bien avant dans la nuit; il dura jusqu’au lendemain matin.

Le jour suivant deux Compagnies de Bourgeois, chacune
de cinquante Hommes choisis, que l’on avoit habillés en Grena-
diers, marchèrent par toutes les principales rües de la Ville, accom-
pagnant la Confrérie de St. Michel. Ils faisoient de tems en
terms l'exercice; tiroient par pelotons, & jettoient fort adroi-
tement des grenades. Ils étoient suivis de plusieurs figures d'oi-
seaux & d'autres animaux splendidement ornés
, & curieuse-
ment ajustès & bigarès par les corps des Métiers de la Ville.

In the Vendredy, four large
Ramesses artistically made: two were shaped like towers
hexagons; that is to say, with fixed facades, with five floors of
strades, and the other two were squared with their arcades
and their galleries, and on each corner we had stuck a little
piramide. They were adorned with the banners of Ecclesiastics
& Heads-Colleges (sçavoir of the City of Ghent, that of
of Bruges, and of the College of the Franc whose deputies
feel the Members of the Province) & they were illuminated
of a large number of lanterns & lanterns, which gave
a very nice appearance. There was still before the Hotel de Vil-
the other three similar Piramides built in the shape of
Roman Temple with Imperial Crowns & Globes
at the fommet: they were also illuminated by lanterns painted
to the arms of His Imperial and Catholic Majesty, of the Pro-

of the statue of the Emperor Charles V. We see it on fire

MIItIs, and all of this rested to the full satisfaction of the Court
all the Spectators.

Then there was a public ball at the Town Hall, with a large
contest of Lords & Ladies, who appeared in the last
magnificence: all the refreshments

buckets & other animals splendidly adorned, & curious-
adjusted and bigarès by the bodies of the trades of the City.
