Virginia defines the objects for which vestries
exist, and limits their sphere solely to the
temporal concerns of their respective churches
The minister is alone responsible for the
means employed for the promotion of the
spiritual interests of his church. And
when the pecuniary abilities of his congregation
are restricted by way or other unavoidable
calamity, the minister will most willingly
share the common trouble
The reasons for the course which I
thought best to pursue in regard to the point
in question between us have bein briefly
given you. Your reply does not propose to
cooperate with your Rector. Its tone is
not even that of suggestion - but
