"Sing a song of sixpence" was the fashion of old; but a song of "two dollars & ninety cents" shows how far we have gone beyond our betters. Miss Sippa is the first one to sing me such a tune. brought his announcement of "Selections" by Mrs Reynells - a copy of which, with her autograph, is for you. She writes of it thus: "Seldom indeed have I held in my hands a volume of such exquisite poetry; beautiful through & through, thronged with thought, without exception lines & perfect in form. It is a privilege to read it." This, of course, is for my friends alone to see.

Mr Copeland wrote me about his new venture, & asked for Xmas verses. I hope it may hold him at work, for I fancyhe is restless unemployed; & yet it seems hard for him to follow a road far. Hasenfus is now at his Seminary in Brighton. It is strange that one as lacking in literary equipment should concern himself with book men: but he is an honest soul.

Mr Maynard, his last, of his firm, I am informed, is now no longer in it. Do you know whether he left it of choice or on compulsion? His silence seems ominous. I told Father [Dorarans ?] who was with us last week, to greet you in my name. He is one of the largesthearted of my many children, & the noblest of characters.
