At 2 AM wind hauled to
Eastward. Set courses, T Gal sails Jibbs &c
Heading by the wind on starboard tack
about N.E. by N. In forenoon steady breezes
with passing clouds. In P.M. wind
increasing & a heavy swell heaving up from
Northward. Lat 36.50 W. At 4 PM, took
in T. Gal sails. Single reefed Topsails & Spanner
& hauled down T. Gal Staysail & Outer Jibb
At 6 P.M. ship is in her course E.N.E. with
starboard tacks aboard I think there is the
appearance of heavy weather. Had my sextant
adjusted & found only 2 seconds off. to be
