16 Wednesday. May 30th. 1804. The society convened, the members were called and the journals of the last evening were read. Absentees, see, p. 6th After which, Messrs. Birge and Hurlbut, members of the sophomore class were admitted into the society. Mr. Harris, also member of the junior class was admitted. It was motioned and carried that the reading of Br. Phelps' dissentation should be postponed till the the next meeting. Brs. M. Cook and D. C. Hopkins composuists for the next evening. Brs Bell, Cook, Hopkins and Huggins are Disputants for the next evening. Question for Disputation. Ought the emigration of Foreigners into the U.S.A. be encouraged by our government? Attest. Wednesday June 6th. 1804. The society convened, members were called, and the proceedings of the last evening read. Absentees, P. 17th Br D. C. Hopkins according to appointment read composition. The question for Disputation "Ought the emigration of Foreigners to be encouraged by our government" was discussed by Brs Bell, D. C. Hopkins and Huggins and derived in the negative. Nays 12, yeas 10

18 June 13th. 1804. The society assembled, members were called and the journals of the last evening were read. Absentees. see p. 17th. The Judicial Commitee made report. Br Phelps was excused from reading a dissertation. Brs M. Cook, Huggins and Gray were excused for the evening. The question, "would it be politic to establish a work house in Vermont" was discussed and decided in the affirmative. Brs Bingham and Blarget were appointed Composuists for the next evening. Brs Cooley, Davis, Gove and Hall appointed Disputants. Question for disputation, "Could the time which is spent in studying the Languages, during a collegiate education be better employed in english studies? The propriety of Br Grays excuse being doubted, it was voted that it be referred to Judicial Committee. Attest. Calvin Noble. Scribe Wednesday June 20th. 1804. The society convened, members were called, and the Journals of the last evening were read. Absentees. see p 17. The Judicial Committee made report. Brs Bell, M. Whorter, Gray and Leeland were excused for the evening. Br Bingham read composition. It was motioned and carried that Br Lawton return the united thanks of this society to President Atwater for a number of Books which he presented to the Phi. Library. It was voted by the society last evening that the Treasurer pay twenty cents to Br Gove to replace his expenses for the society. Compouists appointed viz. Br Davis and Gove. Disputants for the next evening Brs Harris, Learned, Lawton and Noble. Question for disputation, "Ought Ministers to be supported by taxation? Attest. Calvin Noble. Scribe.

Tuesday. June. 26th. 1804. The society met according to adjournment for the purpose of adopting the new constitution, which being taken up article by article, was adopted by the unanimous voice of the society, after which Brs Gove, Birge and Hopkins were appointed to form a code of laws for the society. 20 Wednesday June 27th 1804. The society convened, members were called, and the journals of the two las[t] meetings were read. Absentees see p 17 The Judicial Committee made report. Br. Davis was excused from reading composition. Brs Hopkins and Blodget were excused for the evening. Br Hale read a dissertation. Brs Phelps and Cooley were honorably dismissed from this society. The question for discussion "ought Ministers of the gospel to be supported by taxation." was discussed and decided in the affirmative. Yeas 18. Nays 5.
