Gardner Brewer Esq

Dear Sir

I have your favor of the and would
say in reply that your letter of was read by myself
and that I saw the reply.

Understanding from your first letter that the condition of
the lot was not satisfactory, I myself & the gardener saw the
lot and agreed that with the exception of the sod around
the base of the monument & the rhodendron the lot looked
good.

We also agreed in looking that there was enough loam
on the Lot for shrub & sod to do well, and examination
today shows that there is - (18 to 24 inches; much more
than in most lots).

Rhododendrons can not be made to do well. I think
the ground is too dry and [?].

I should not advise putting in more loam, but can do it
for you if wanted; I think that should [?] to the [?]
[?] to do well enough.

Yours truly
