I request you to communicate at the next meeting of the
Trustees of Mount Auburn Cemetery, my resignation, by no means
premature, of the office of Trustee of that institution.
On leaving the long familiar meetings of Mount Auburn, with which
I have been associated for more than forty years, I would not fail to
give utterance to the satisfaction which we must all feel that an enter-
prise which was new a few years since, has become an object of successful
imitation in all parts of this continent.
With sincere acknowledgments for the uniform courtesy and kindness
which I have received from the Trustees and the Corporation,
At the unanimous and urgent solicitation of his associates,
as expressed in a letter of which the following is a copy, he
has consented to withdraw his resignation and allow the use
of his name for re-election at this time.
The undersigned, members of the Board of Trustees of
Mount Auburn, have received with deep regret your communication to the President of the Corporation announcing your resignation of the
office of Trustee.
Your name has been identified with the foundation and successful
development of the Institution, and we are sure we express the wishes
of every member of the Corporation in asking the withdrawal of this
letter.
Believing that your resignation at any time would be premature, we
sincerely hope you will accede to this request.
