1855-12-03 Trustee Committee on Grounds: Report, Filling in Garden Pond, 1831.033.003-012 - p1

Boston

The committee on grounds Report

That they have made a contract
subject to the approval of the Trustees, for
mowing the hill and filling up the pond
east of
Central avenue and nearest the gate.
The intention is to fill up the pond with
earth taken from the hill, to the highest of
about six and a half feet above the present
surface of the water, for $850. By this
operation the corporation will gain for the above
service, more than an acre of saleable land
in one of the most desirable parts of the
ground. At this same time, the hill will be
lowered so as to form a gentle and regular
grade rendering all the land easily accessible
for cemetery purposes
