Pleasent weather all sail set with studding sails saw
Nothing but too sails steering too the s w midal
End latter part lite winds and [fene?] employed

Stoweage saw one sail steereing too the southwest

Tuesday July the 23^rd commences with lite brezes
E [@?] 4 PM saw a large sperm whale 6 miles of
E [@?] fifteen minutes pest 5 sew [-] [egen?] and
and lowerd [boats?] and [and?] [west?] both the whale
Went down [-] 4 or 5 miles the [direcetion?]
Hee was [gowing?] at 7 PM came up 3 miles from
The [botes?] returned on bord and wore ship
and [keept?] of same course ssw one sail in site
saw sperm whale midal part late brezes from
the westward at 8 PM tact too the northward
Latter part [-] pleasant weather at 6 AM
Tact and stered so we set the topmast and top
gallant studding sail imployed getting the [-]
