Includes descriptions of whales seen or taken, accidents at sea, deaths at sea, mutinous behavior, interactions with natives, punishment on ships, and shipboard medicine. Also includes whale stamps, ships stamps, a crew list, and a list of provisions. The cooper broke his leg on 27 January 1845 and the captain set it. The ship came within six feet of fouling a ship in the night on January 22, 1847. George Shearman was killed by a whale on June 22, 1845. John Gomes fell from aloft and died on August 29, 1844.; Old Dartmouth Historical Society (ODHS 164); Whaling vessel out of New Bedford, Mass., mastered by Edward T. Thursday August the 22nd commences with moderate Breezes and fine cource s w by s all sail set the Watch employed setting up the low rigging then more That was (?) feels better midel and better pert (?) breezes and fine all sail set cource s w Said one sail the watch employed topping (?) yes and fitting foretopsails (?) so ends Lat 17-33 Longitude 27-03 s w Friday August the 23rd commences with lite breezes End cleer pleasent weather the watch employed varni shing the main and mizenmast saw a sail steerei ng too the eastwerd the men that was (?) in e good Dele of (?) and feverrish midel and better part lite breezes and fine cource s w by s midel part Letter frend s w saw too finbacks the watch employed setting up the larbourd main rigging so ends Lat 19-08.
