meeting in our School room if they would come in. A good number gath
ered - A pleasant service we had - solemn & long to be remembered. Mr. B.
told them we expected to leave in the morning, that our labors here for the
present would close - if we did not come again in the Fall they would have
new teachers - & made many good suggestions. Thanked them for their
kindness to us - The people were much affected, though quiet as they always
are when he leads them. At the close Mr. Blake led in prayer - We took
each by the hand in parting while the tears ran down our faces - we were
parting with kind & true friends - x The reason of our final decision is,
Mr. B. brings us word the soldiers, who have been stationed here, are recalled as ‘tis
thought there is no further need of their service here. They propably will
leave in the boat in the morning - Miss S. must have this tooth extracted
& we prepare to put up a few things, Miss S. & I go as early in the morning
as we can get a tram to the boat. If we should not get there in time we will
return with the tram for a few goods & provisions & we will take up our abode at
the home the officers have occupied till a boat does come. It may be a few
days, it may be weeks - If we miss this boat there will be no other way for us
to do - ‘Tis worse than getting to Europe from home. We must be up early in the
morning --
