1908 Blakemore Avenue Nashville, Tenn. [Tennessee] March 24, 1922.

Mr. G. H. Ferguson, Dept. of Education, Raleigh, N. C.

My dear Mr. Ferguson:

I wrote to all of you rather hurriedly the other day, but as I had not settled down, I said very little. After I finished registering today I went to Nashville and rented me a typewriter. I am enclosing a copy of my first letter, which, I trust, will prove of interest to you. Really, I have a very full course, but one that will be very helpful, I think.

If you will ask one of the force to send me a little stationery, a half dozen or so manilla envelopes, and some letter size envelopes(long ones) . I shall greatly appreciate it. A few stamps would not be bad.

I was greatly disappointed when I woke up at eight o'clock and found that we had passed Salisbury. I do not understand how I came to sleep later than five.

How is the work going? Any thing requiring an expression from me will be attended to as early after it is received as possible.

With good wishes to all of you, I am,

Very sincerely,

Dear Mr. Credle:

Your second epistle is lost; it may be found. If I can evolve your wants from the complication of materials on my desk, I shall try to see that you get the needed supplies. I noted, however, that the eraser was quite an important factor in your typewriting.

I went to Southport Thursday and looked into the situation there as to the rebuilding of the County Training School. Superintendent Guthrie states that they would like, if possible, to build a six-room structure this time. I am sending him plans for two types of buildings (601-2 and 402-2). I told him that I would write you relative to securing additional aid. You understand, I am sure, that the original building was a four-room type on which they secured $1200. In case they build a six-room structure they would be due $400 more. Just how would be the best way to handle this additional aid. Would we have to handle it as though it were two rooms built to the original structure or state to Mr. Smith that the old structure was burned and the new building is being enlarged?

Mr. S. L. Smith writes that it will take three men to keep up with your job. However, he did not mean to imply that you had been doing three men's work. I suppose the intention of his letter was to imply that you are so far behind with it that it will take three men to catch up.

With every good wish to you for your stay at Tuskegee, I am,

Very sincerely yours,

G H Ferguson G. H. Ferguson, Assistant Director.

Mr. W. F. Credle, 1908 Blakemore Avenue, Nashville, Tenn.

Dear Mr. Credle:-

I have your letter relative to your arrival in Nashville. I note what you have to say about your stay at Battery Park. I am wondering if you made another visit to Grove Park Inn. If so, the guest there can write no letters for a few days at least.

I am glad to know that you are so satisfactorily located as to room. I know you must feel very deeply the loss of your roommate and his midnight hours at the typewriter. As early as possible I shall try to get his watch to him so he may not annoy the community with his late hours.

I think your suggestion relative to visiting the classes before registering is very wise. I think it might be well for you to be convinced whether or not"they can teach you anything". If you find the college work too advanced, I suggest that you take up some elementary courses and, perhaps, a few simple courses in the high school. If the one in charge of these departments do not find you teachable, we have an institution in Raleigh to take care of such folks - - Dix Hill.

I shall do as you say relative to your personal mail. Of course, we necessarily will have to read your letters to determine whether it is personal or not.

With every good wish for a successful and pleasant stay there, I am

Very sincerely,

G. H. Ferguson

Dear Mr. Credle:-

I am sending you enclosed two inspection reports sent in the office by Dr. Davis. I also attach his letters relative to these projects.

His style is [unchanged?]

I am enclosing several letters which, perhaps, you would like to see. You will note I have penciled them according to what I thought was best. I am not sending you the blueprint sent in by Professor Vines. I shall try to look over this and write him accordingly. If you prefer, however, that we forward same to you I shall be glad to do so.

With every good wish, I am

Very sincerely,

G. H. Ferguson

March 30, 1922.

Mr. G. H. Ferguson, Department of Education, Raleigh, N. C.

Dear Mr. Ferguson:

Just a word about the Southport building. If you will have Mr. Guthrie to wait a few days, it is possible that we will be able to submit a much better plan than 601-2 for his County Training School. We are working on buildings for that type of school now.

Very sincerely yours,
