To County Supervisors:

I am very much interested from day to day
as weekly reports come into the office from you ^(and others), show-
ing the results of work done and of people encouraged,
etc. We are looking to you to produce not only tangible
but useful results in your county.

One of our Southern States this year in which
there are twenty-five Home-Makers' Club Agent^(s) has set
itself the task to put up 500,000 jars and cans of fruit,
vegetables, etc. "A half million jars of fruits and
vegetables saved for home use" is their slogan. They
have set their standard high. What about North Carolina?
Shall we permit any Southern State to outstrip us in
this matter? Are you careful to see that every bit
of work done is recorded so that your county may get
credit for it? Are you pushing the club work with all
your energy and zeal?

We do not wish you to subordinate everything
to quantity. We hope that you will not only be the
instrument of securing the saving of many hundreds,
perhaps [begin crossed out]of[end crossed out] thousands, of quarts of splendid canned
fruits and vegetables, but that ^(what) is done shall be first
class in every particular.

You may be interested to know that last year,
on an average, the fourteen counties in which we had
club agents saved about 3,300 jars or cans each and
sold fresh vegetables and fruits amounting to about
$100 cash each. Of course, some of the counties did
a great deal more than this. I think the three banner
counties last year are as follows: Wilkes, with 23,317
jars; Anson, with 8,618 jars; and Gates, with 4,665.
As will be seen, Wilkes was first. This county also
sold something over $700 worth of fruits and vegetables.
Gates sold about $150 worth of fruitsvegetables and
poultry.

Wishing you continued success, I am,

Very truly,

State Agent Rural Schools.
