This agreement made and entered into this the 21st day of December 1842 between John McCain and Nancy Morgan, both of the County of Caswell & State of North Carolina; Witnesseth, that whereas a marriage is intended shortly to take place & be consummated between the said John McCain & Nancy Morgan; the said John McCain being seized & possessed of a good estate, real & personal; & the said Nancy Morgan being possessed of no estate whatever; and whereas, in the event of the said marriage and the said John McCain's dying, leaving the said Nancy his widow, him surviving and in consideration of said marriage between them to be consummated, the said John McCain is desirous of making a competent provision for the said Nancy, without prejudicing too much the interests of the children of his first marriage, he agrees to convey and hereby conveys to the said Nancy, the mansion house in which he now lives in the County together with one hundred acres of land attached thereto, the said hundred acres of the land to be by him hereafter laid off, also one negro boy by the name of Henry, now about eighteen years of age, and oue negro girl by name of Adaline now about ten or twelve years of age, with whatever increase may be born to the said girl Adaline after the happening of the event upon which the said land & negroes are to rest in the said Nancy, also one sixth part of the stock of the horses, cows, hogs &c. and one sixth part of the household & kitchen furniture that may then be on hand; To have and to hold the said land and negroes, stock &c. to the said Nancy Morgan during her natural life or widowhood, the possession and enjoyment of the same to rest & take effect only upon the contingency herein before mentioned, (viz) the said John McCain's dying, leaving the said Nancy his widow him surviving - and at the death of the said Nancy, or in the event that she marry again, then her interest in & title to the said land & negroes, stock &c. ceases entirely and the same are to go to the said John McCain's children as he may hereafter direct by will or according to the laws of descent and distribution - The said provision herein made & agreed to be made for the said Nancy, being intended to be in lieu, and in full satisfaction of any right of dower, & any right in & to any portion of the estate of the said John McCain, [begin crossed out] to [end crossed out] which the said Nancy may acquire by the marriage aforesaid between them to be consum^(m)ated -

And the said Nancy agrees and hereby obligates herself to accept the provision herein above set forth, upon the terms herein

Memorandum of an agreement Between Samuel Dunaway of the County of Caswell and State of North Carolina of the one part, and Elizabeth Tait widow Robert Tait Deceased, of the same County and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth; that whereas the said Samuel and Elizabeth has agreed to Marry and Boath of them have got property and having agreed between themselves ^(that) Their and each of ^(their) children shall enjoy the property that they now have in their possession; they have solemnly agreed and Contracted Between themselves that all the Property which the said Samuel is now possessed of shall Be equally Divided between his seven Children of the following names- Lucy Morning, William Dunaway, Anny, Rosey Epperson, James Dunaway, Jameson Howard Dunaway, & Elizabeth Bazzel, and the property that the said Elizaeth Tait is now posed ^(with) shall be Equally Divided Between her three Children by the following names Green Hill Tait. James Madison Tait, and Elizabeth Robert Tait, and if Either of the above Children shall Dye before the arrive at the age of Twenty one years ^(or marries) their part shall be Equally divided between the Survivors of the whole Blood share and ^ (share) alike and what they make after Marriage if they have no
