A History of my tomato crop.

I joined the girls canning club to see how much fun was in it, and to make all out of it I could.

My garden is a gray sandy soil.

It contained 48x90 3/4 feet. I selected it for a garden because I thought it was a good place for a garden.

The garden was plowed with a two horse plow about the Middle of nov. It was disked in the spring, Then plowed with a Cultivator before setting out plants. The fertilizer used was [illegible] Acid, and stable manure made into Compost in the early spring, and was put in the tomato rows and Co[illegible]

The tomato plants were grown in a cold bed, with a canvas stretched over the bed until they came up.

I would take the canvas off the bed after the plants were up, in the day time, and put it back again at night.

day to the bed, through a corn field where the corn had been cut up. I would very often catch the bucket on a stalk and loose [lose] all of the water would have to come back for more. The plants were real large before transplanting. I find to let the plants get large they do a great deal better

thaw to set them out while they are small. After I got the plants set out they grew faster than ever. I was very proud of a nice tomato patch of my own. I staked some of the patch. I had two or three methods of staking one was slats nailed in a V shape wide enough at the bottom to reach from [?] one row to the other. I nailed slats on about 8 inches apart.
