During the School year 1913-14 while attending a teachers meeting at Asheboro, in my home County, I first heard tomato clubs explained in detail. The speaker was Miss Scott from Raleigh who has

charge of the Tomato Clubs in North Carolina. Her mission to Randolph was to prepare it for Tomato Club organization.

I was very much interested in this work and told my pupils

about it. We also discussed the articles in the North Carolina Day programme about the tomato club girls who have made good in this work.

Later in the spring a Tomato Club was organized

in my community. I joined with the hope of making country life more attractive; and to learn more scientific ways of farming, and to make a little pin money.
