Club girls Story
I ame a little girl 12 years old I joined the canning Club bcause [because] I thought I could make some money af [of] my own.
My garden contains 1/10 acre My garden was on a hill of a sandy field I put my garden there because I was expecting a wet summer. After a 2 horse load of manure had been spread -
The soil was plowed with a one horse Plow early in the summer [crossed out] spring after a good stond [?] af clover had come up
The ground was then horrowed with with a drag harrow The rows were run af [off] And hills were made up I used about 3 Pecks of ferttizer [fertlizer] I Put about half bushels in the hills when

I made them up and used a Peck to Put around the plants when I hoed the Plants I raised my Plants in an open bed near the barnd yard I dug up the ground and carried a lot of good manure and put on the bed I kept the bed cavered [covered] in cold nights with a canvas when. I set the plants I carried water and put an the hills to keep the plants from dieing [dying]. I hoed my plants 3 tiems [times] they were Plowed 5 times
When The plants were [crossed out] was about a foot high I Pruned apart af them down to a single stalk.
The flee beattes [beatles] bothered the Plants I mixed snuff [?] and Black Bepper and Put an the Plants to drive them away I did not weigh my Tomatoes we used about eight Bushels fresh at home and filed [filled] 44 glass jars.

My work cost me $5.70 and the Value of my crop was $14.95 with a neight [crossed out] net Profit of $9.95.
The club work has helped me to know how to sow seeds and care for Plants. I had hoped to raise a great many more tomatoes than I did but an [on] account of dry weather my Plants did not what I expeced [expected] them to.
