History of my Tomato Patch.

My Tomato patch contained one tenth of acre. The soil was partly grey and partly clay. The subsoil was red. It was situated between an old Tenants house and a spring branch. In front of the house there were two very large oak trees which injured my plants a great deal.

Sometime about the middle of March my tomato seed were sown in my father's to.bacco plant bed. They came up all right and by the time that I was ready to plant them they were large and healthy plants.

On May the eighth, my land was broken about six inches deep, and one one-horse wagon load of manure, scat[illegible] over it. Several days later, abou[illegible]

that was planted in beans broke[illegible] up and planted in tomatoes and beans; but these did not amount to much for it was so late when I planted them and at the same time I was so busy canning my tomatoes that they did not receive the proper attention until it was too late to do much for them.
