A list of names of island
localities found amongst the
papers of Mrs. Nancy Tallant
after her death in 1870. The list
was probably made fifteen or
twenty years earlier. The spelling
of some names which occure more
than once varies in the different
places; this has not been altered in
copying, as it shows that the spelling
of our Indian names was still un
settled as late as the middle of the
nineteenth century. We have come to
some agreement in these later days,
but of these various ways of representing
the Indian gutturals one way is
doubtless as good as another.
