28th 3mo 1836 Chilly wind SE, afternoon some snow toward night began to rain. the two Mail Packets left here at noon & got a ground on the Bar. S. [SCRANTON?] for Connecticut also went out & got over the bar. It is now 30 days that all passing from here to the Continent has stopped on act. of the ice.

6th 3 mo At 1/2 past one o'clock, the town was alarmed by the cry of fire, which proved to be Thomas Coffin Soap Factory, but fortunately it was extinguished without much damage.

6th 3mo Since this month came the weather has been mild and spring like. The harbor is pretty much clear of ice, which has enabled the vessels to leave the Port. Many have been detained a long time by the ice. There is still much frost in the ground.

20th From the above date to the 20th the weather has boisterous for the season of the year. Cold, windy & rainy.

22nd A moderate snow storm. Wind at SE. The snow fell several inches.

23rd Warm sun very wet in the streets.

3 mo Some time back Aaron Mitchell's Candle House but was soon discovered and extinguished.

By the state we are allowed to say it is Spring, but by the prevailing weather we might with propriety call it Winter. Frequent flight of snow & often snow & ice and very windy boisterous weather.
