1837 9th 8 mo Thick, close, foggy weather this morning. At 11 o'clock AM it began to rain, by spells it rained till night, and proved the greatest rain we have had for some months. The depth of water in our Cistern increased about 3 feet.

10th Fore part of the day very warm. Latter part the [WIND?] sprang up at NE and cold. The revenue Cutter Sturgis arrived here
11th Wind at NE and cool. It began to rain at sun rise & continues to rain through the whole day. It proved a remarkable soaking rain. It is likely the ground is well saturated. Our citstern was full soon after dinner.
15th The wind continues Easterly and cold for summer with frequent showers.

15 This day half of one share in the Old north Wharf belonging to Seth Coleman's heirs was sold at Auction for $522.50 to Paul West.

18th It is said the Humpacks are uncommonly numerous on the Shoals. Three vessels are fitted & gone out in pursuit of them. Sloop Maria obtained one, and brought it in today, which is thought will make 25 barrels.

18th It rained all day. We have hardly had such a flood of rain for a long time. I think more water fell in the course of the day than on the 11th. Although late in the season, it will doubtless be of material benefit.

25th Schooner Factor came in from the Shoals with one Humpback, which is thought will make 30 barrels of oil.

29th Sloop [IRIS?] Capt. Andrews brought in a calf Humpback of 10 barrels.
