First day of the week.
This afternoon at o'clock the alarm of Fire was again sounded throughout the Town which proved to be Coffin & Gardner's Cooper Shop (formerly Paul Gardner & Sons Candle Works). The people generally with the Enquiries were collected, fortunately the fire was soon extinguished, without doing much damage. This is the third time that fire has been discovered in the same building. It appeared so evident that it is the work of an incendiary that the town was convened on the occassion [OCCASION] at 5 o'clock PM this day, to take into consideration the alarming subject matter, and to act thereon as may appear most adviseable. The town appointed a Committee of five viz [VIDELICET] Geo. [GEORGE] F Worth, Thomas Macy, Chs. [CHARLES] G Coffin, P H Folger, & Geo. [GEORGE] B Upton to use their united exertions to detect the incendiary, with authority to apply any amount exeeding 1000 $ to bring the subject to light. The Select Men are enjoined to lend their assistance if needed, & the whole town to assist in obtaining the desired information.
