CLARK

PRESIDENT OF THE NAVAL WAR COLLEGE Newport, Rhode Island 02840

13 March 1979

Dear Nancy,

Jim, Marina, and I got together this past weekend at an educators' conference in Memphis and he gave me your letter.

I am most impressed by your ambition and motivation to get an appointment to AOCS and from your resume it appears you are highly competitive. As I'm sure you are aware, competition in the past has been extremely keen for the limited number of appointments available, and it is expected to remain at the same level this year.

I would be pleased to meet with you to discuss your qualifications and to consider being listed as a reference on your application. I will be in Columbus 6-8 April (arriving late on the 6th; departing early on the 8th) and could meet you then. Please check with Jim and Marina as to what time would be best since Mrs. Stockdale and I leave our schedule in their hands when we visit. Alternatively, we will be in Houston on 10-11 Aril where I will speak at Rice University. That may be more convenient for you. In either case, please contact my Aide, Lieutenant Commander John Morse, (401) 841-2266, and he can arrange a suitable time.

I look forward to meeting with you.

Sincerely, [signature] J.B. STOCKDALE Vice Admiral, U.S. Navy
