Miss Frances Ward

Dear Miss Ward:

Recent information received through Department of The Army channels
indicates you are seeking interviews with personnel who participated in
the D-Day landings of 6 June 1944. So in reference to the above, I am
writing to let you know I am available for interview and would be most
happy and honored to furnish you any information or facts you desire re-
grading the participation of the 2D Ranger Battalion in the D-Day landings.

I was a member of the 2D Ranger Battalion from its' day of activation at
Camp Forrest Tennessee in March 1943 to its' day of deactivation at Camp
Patrick Henry, Virginia in October 1945. I participated in the D-Day land-
ings as a member of "F" Company, that assaulted the cliffs at Pointe du Hoe,
France just to the right of Omaha Beach. I was the NCO in charge of one of
two ammunition boats (LCA's) that were utilized by the Battalion for the
invasion. And speaking of these ammunition boats, the boat I was placed in
charge of was the only boat able to make it to the beach, for unfortunately
the other boat sank shortly after being dispatched from the mother ship in
the English Channel approximately 10 miles from the French Coast.

I have a vast reservoir of facts and information and of course many,
many memories of that most eventful day and the wonderful guys who lived
and died through it, and as I stated above, would be most happy and honored
to furnish you anything I know and remember of the D-Day landings as far as
the 2D Ranger Battalion is concerned.
