Dear Madam,
I was looking through the American
Legion Magazine and noted where you were
looking for men that had been at Normandy
June 6th 1944, I was there with the U.S. Navy
aboard the U.S.S. Nevada (BB36) and other units
of the Allied fleets. We helped bombard
"Omaha" and "Utah" beach prior to the troops
landing there- Afterwards we went down the
coast to Cherbourg and there encountered German
shore batteries that fired on us but thank God
missed us, although we came very close of getting
hit, we then went to So. France and bombarded
Marsellise and Toulon on the southern coast.
I had a very accurate scrapbook of the
Invasion that included newspaper clippings and
several pictures, but it is now in the hands
of the Museum of the State of Nevada in
Carson City. If you can use it I am more
that glad to have you use it, but I really
do not know who to contact there
