each other, Patrols wich had been sent out By our own
company's "C" and "D", one man was killed and another wounded
I think the battalion as a whole had a touch of "trigger
nerves" because "D" company fired across the river at us
untill things got settled.
About midnight our section were attacked from
the rear by a patrol of [inserted]Jerry[end inserted] Cyclists who had infiltreted
through and around our forward "companys", wheeling
thier machines loaded with machine guns and stick
grenades. our sentry "36 Francis" [crossed out]head[end crossed out] heard them
first, warned the platoon officer and myself. The
officer Mr. Randall at the side of me wispered to
"Francis" to challenge he was of course holding
A Bren gun at the hip, he did so and we heard
a chatter as they must have panicked. Dropping
their machines we opened up firing. Randall

about seventeen, who had been hit in the groin
by our Bren gunner. I escorted him over the
bridge for interogation. while Luet Randall organized
a patrol to search for the others.

and tank attack on the days that followed. we lost
many men and machines. The wood just beyond this
bridge turned out to be the general headquarters
of the Germans. For all that beach area and the
town pf "Bayuax", they had concrete underground defences
dummy tanks and guns etc" in the woods.
We as a platoon were cut off in there in the
days that followed and the battle
