Sir,

By the Direct. of the Amer. Acad. of Arts and Sciences. I enclose you a Diploma in Testimoney of your being Elected a member, which they beg you to accept as a mark of their high esteem of your Literary [illegible]. While they do the [illegible] the honor of enrolling the name on the list of the Members, they entertain the hope it will not be display to you. Any communications you may reach to make will be greatfuly recvd. For several years past I have employed my [illegible] hours in the [?family?]

The pursuit of Natural history, of [illegible] part of [illegible] at Boston. Paper of mine was published was published in the 1st Vol. of the Merm. of the [?Head?] That was indeed an [illegible] the incorrect acount of the vegetables. I have several [illegible] the [illegible] under better advantages, the purpose [crossed out] to [end crossed out] not only to correct the errors in the paper but to publish a work [illegible] of the natural of some [?magnitade?]. I should be happy, if should be agreeable, to be fav. with the correspondence, and ready to [?borrow?] your any spec. fo the An. Vey. or [illegible] in my power, that are natives of the part of America.
