Colonial Secretary's Office Sydney 2nd March 1855.

Sir,

In reply to your letter of the 6th Ultimo, respecting the distribution of the Funds for the maintenance of a Native Police Force for the District of Brisbane for the Year 1855, I am directed to inform you that His Excellency the Governor General under your recommendation approves of the Sergeant and Six Troopers to be employed in the District of Brisbane, forming part of the [on right] Force

The Government Resident

Force under the command of the Commandant of Native Police, and of their being selected by that Officer, and ordered to Brisbane as soon as convenient, - fully equipped.

2. With reference to the distribution of the £660 voted for this Service, His Excellency further Approves of the Balance, - After deducting the cost of Clothing, accoutrements and Horses for the one Sergeant and Six Troopers provided by the Commandant, - being placed to your Credit, as suggested by you, to enable you to pay [on right] Salaries

Salaries, Allowances in lieu of provisions, Shoeing horses, and All contingencies, as well as to erect a Barrack, or procure Tents, as may be found most desirable.

3. The Commandant of Native Police has been informed accordingly, and requested to Select a Sergeant and Six men and to forward them, fully equipped, to Brisbane at his earliest convenience.

4. With reference to the suggestion contained in the 5th paragraph of your communication, the Colonial Storekeeper has been instructed that all Clothing and other Stores for the use of the [on right] Brisbane
