Senior Constle McDermott Ref 346 respectfully States, his health has not improved since his arrival in Brisbane.
He finds himself still unfit for duty, his Constitution being so much infirmed from hardship and fever while doing duty in the Cook and Mourilyan districts
He is also suffering from rupture caused by Kicks from larricans [sic] who mobed [sic] the Senior Cons and other police here while doing duty about 1880. The Senior Constle got £5 reward but he has paid away over £50 Since that date on buying trusses for the rupture.
As stated on his former application he is also suffering from the effects of injurys [sic] to the knee & back received while on duty
The Senior Constle trusts the Commissioner will kindly Consider his past Services and as nothing is now allowed for the Concession of 3 years Counting 4 So kindly granted by the Comr to men in the Cook district where the Senr Constle Served about 10 years from its Commencement in opening Cooktown, Palmer, Hodgkinson & Cairns (he in Company with Inspector Douglas found a road to the latter place then Trinity Bay from the Hodgkinson) and Mourilyan Harbour.
The Senior Constle has been in Charge of Stations at various periods from 1875 and refers to his defaultre [sic] sheet for Character
The Senior Constle trusts the Commissioner will allow him go before a board of Drs under Sec 22 police act and allow him retire from the police with the rank of Sergeant in Consideration of past services and injurys [sic] he has received in the discharge of his duties
The Senior Constle joined the police on the 8th August 1873 and is as 50 years last August
