[letter] of the 7 Inst No. 56/1332 in reference to a communication from me of the 7 February last respecting the disturbed state of the Aborigines in this place, and in explanation I do myself the honor to state that my letter was intended merely to report the apprehension of a notorious offender & the consequent excitement and threatenings of the other blacks, and not to complain of the amount of protection - already afforded or to solicit any further aid, as I was aware that Sub Lieut. Walker was at Walla about 70 Miles from Maryborough & I had been informed by the Commandant that he would cooperate with me in keeping the Blacks in Subjection - Had I thought a further force of Native police necessary I should at once have applied to Mr Walker, who has been most obliging to me, and would, I am sure have attended to my application.

2 On referring to my letter of the 7 February, I regret to find that I have made the omission complained of, displaying an apparent want of candor, which I assure you was far from my intention, and from which I inform you "that I had written "to the Commandant of the Native Police respecting the depredations "committed by the Blacks, and that that officer had promised "to station at Tinana, for a time, a Corporal & five Troopers and "that I was daily expecting them," will I trust exonerate me, for I could hardly wish to disguise a Circumstance that I had reported to you two months previously, I was in daily expectation of taking place.

I have &c

Arthur E. Halloran C.C.L

The Chief Commr of Crown Lands.
