Sir, I have the honor to state that immediate: ly on receipt of Telegram relating to the whereabouts of Johnny Stink-a-Bed & Billy Bow Bow, I started in pursuit.

On arrival at Wivenhoe [Wivenhoe], I received intelligence that a strange Black, had made his appearance at the Inn in search of tobacco. I had no doubt he had come in from Johnny's Camp, and I made him prisoner, so that he should pilot us to the locality.

He took us the following morning, right to the head of England's Creek, in the heart of d'Aguilar's Range.

were only gins and blind old men in it; from them I learnt that Johnny with two or more other Blacks had shifted his camp one day previous over another range to the head of the Cabbage Tree Creek [added in right margin] not the same Sand= gate [Sandgate] Cabbage Tree Creek ----------- about 12 miles from Samford.

We immediately tracked them to their camp but unfortunately on approach= ing them, Johnny who was washing a sheet of Bark, caught sight of one of the men and dived into the creek immediately. I believe his companions were Billy Bow Bow & Jemmy D'Orsay; we were [in right margin] a bad Black not near enough to fire upon them. ~ .

I beg to mention that [Mc Norton's?] Black-Boy Jemmy ([Potingar?]), for whom a coroner's warrant was issued about five years ago, for killing his gin in Ipswich, captured Kipper Billy, at the risk

The antecedents of Kipper Billy captured by Jemmy are of the worst character. He tried to commit a rape on Mrs [Luslin?], wife of the former proprietor of [Buarater?], Mr Bigge cannot keep married females on his outstations on a/c [account] of him. The females on his [head?] station are frightened of him. The shepherds give him whatever he asks, from fear. He held Mrs Rae's legs whilst the others raped her
