[written across top] J Murray for re-employment in Public Service

Gladstone, Port Curtis

15th May 1864

Sir

Having failed in finding you disengaged during my recent visit to Brisbane for the purpose of personally applying to you for re-employment in the Government service, I now do myself the honor of addressing you on the subject. I have to state that I have been awaiting a favorable consideration of the Government for some time and can afford to wait longer if a distinct promise of an approvement could be given me.

In the event of a Gold Escort for the Peak Downs diggings, or a Detective police force for the Colony being organised, I have the honor to request that my name may be borne in mind, from my large experience in police matters

The Honorable

The Colonial Secretary

Brisbane

[written in left margin] Comm'r of Police

How many black troopers are created. If 20 or so Murray might go recruiting.
