Commissioner of Police Police Department Brisbane 16th June 1866

Explanation respecting the request that Messrs. Zieman & Co be paid immediately.

Sir

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 15th Inst informing me that the payment of Messrs Zieman's a/c for rations has been authorized, and as some misapprehension seems to exist on the part of The Hon The Colonial Secretary I beg to explain that this is not an advance to Messrs Zieman, who have already delivered the rations to the Government.

Storekeepers are willing to supply rations unless paid for them on delivery; which can only be done by the Government authorizing me to draw the Troopers [sic] pay in advance.
