Sir.
I have the honor to request that you may be pleased to grant this, my application for the appointment of Infantry Brigade Adjutant and Musketry Instructor to the Queensland Volunteers which I understand is vacant.
I served five years in the 1st Royal Lancashire Militia passing my examinations for a Lieutenant & Captaincey [sic] besides taking a 1st Class Certificate at the School of Musketry Hythe.

I held the appointment of Musketry Instructor for three years being present at the Preliminary or Recruits Drill.
I also acted Adjutant to the 2nd Batt. of my regiment for three months.
I enclose the necessary Certificates together with a letter received from Capt Turner 4th King's Own Regt. who was Adjutant when I retired.
Colonel The Hon F. Stanley commanded the regt. and I feel sure he could report satisfactorily as regards my efficiency.
In case you might be pleased to look favourably on this application I would be prepared to furnish further information.
