Robt Gray Esqr. Under Secretary Brisbane. Q.
Dear Sir, I am in receipt of advices from my brother (Mr. W. F. A. Clarke) that the remains of the late Mr. Walter Clarke are in the possession of the Queensland Govt. awaiting instructions as to their disposal.
This subject, I need not explain to you, is a very painful one to my family, who think it would be unwise under the shrouded circumstances, & meagre evidence obtainable -

- besides the opening up of a wound that time is only now healing - to have them brought on to Sydney.
Could the authorities have the remains (which must be only a few poor bones) interred in Brisbane, under control, for me, & I shall be happy to forward my cheque for any expenses that may arise in connection with the same.
Thanking you for your Kindness in this matter, & trusting I am not imposing on it.
I am Sir Yours Obediently Harold Clarke
