To The Hon: Sir Samuel Griffith Colonial Secretary of Queensland

Sir/

I have the Honor to inform you that at a meeting of the Committee of the Progress Association held on the 10th November instant I was instructed to Communicate with you in reference to the continued outrages upon Settlers by Blacks in the District - The following is a Copy of the resolution - "Resolved that the Secretary be instructed to write "the Colonial Secretary Calling his Attention to the danger of Settlers "from ^ - the - overt Acts of the aboriginal blacks and asking that Government "take some steps for protecting them And at the same time suggest "some mode of Civilization should be attempted to bring the "blacks under the proper subjection of the Law"

I was also requested to mention the Petition by the settlers of the District setting out various outrages and presented to the Government in June last also to inform you that since that time the robberies by the blacks have continued without diminution -

The Committee also are [sic] desirous to suggest the formation of a settlement for feeding and civilizing them similar to those already Existing in other parts of the Colony and which appear to be doing good work
