Colonial Secretary's Office. Brisbane. 21st November 1861.

Gentlemen,

I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your Memorial to His Excellency The Governor representing that the removal of Lieutenant Murray from the Native Police Force would seriously impair its efficiency, and, bearing testimony to Mr Murray's efficiency, requesting that he may be retained in the service. In reply I am directed to inform you that prior to the receipt of your Memorial Lieutenant Murray had been permitted to tender his resignation, having intimated his desire so to do. In this matter the Government have been influenced by considerations which would preclude the feasibility of compliance with the prayer of your Memorial.

I have, &c

(Signed) A. W. Manning.

Messrs Fitzsimmons, Palmer, Feez,

and others Rockhampton.
